A Classical Cherry Bench

 
Designed and built for a couple in the Akron area the parameters on this project was to suit the clean contemporary lines of their tastes yet traditional feel of the house. It also had to withstand the tortures of two boys, their friends and who knows how many guests. It is composed of mainly solid cherry with cherry ply for the seat. Particularly unique to this design is the top edge of the upper end panels.

Tibetan Stool

       Approached by a needlepoint hobbyist to design and construct a stool for one of her projects I was given only dimensions and the request to keep it fairly simple. Though woodworkers and designers would say this is Mission inspired I've never really been a huge fan of Mission design. I flared the volume out  at the base to create solidity, much like I've always admired in the ancient architecture of Tibet where their building slope outward at the bottom creating a determined solidty not unlike the Buddha's determination under the Bodhi Tree. Lofty thoughts for a mere stool.....but why the hell not.

Custom Oak Door

A unique door size called for custom work in the replacement of this storm door in the handsomely designed and impeccably crafted neighborhood of Shaker Heights in Cleveland. I built this door out of red oak and increased the size of the opening for the screen and glass inserts per the customers request.

Home Grown Dresser

This beautiful project was brought to me by a person who had milled cherry and mineral streaked maple right off their own woodlot. This dresser was a joy to design and build using such dramatic materials.

Red Cedar Storm Door

Custom doors and windows always succeed at contributing to the character of a house. This storm door was custom made from solid red cedar. The one panel window is replacablable with a framed screen during the summer.

White Ash Vanity

This design focuses on clarity of line and form while taking full advantage of the beauty of materials. The lightness of the white ash is contrasted with the depth and weight of the dark granite top.
